Mission

The Brighter Choice After-School Enrichment Program is committed to providing quality after-school and summer enrichment programming to scholars that will engage them academically, develop them socially and provide a safe and structured recreational environment.

Program Goals

The Brighter Choice After-School Enrichment Program For Boys provides scholars the opportunity to extend their educational growth. The program’s activities have been chosen to support the scholar’s academic achievement, social development and physical health. Staff at the After-School Enrichment Program will focus on social development and recreational programs to achieve goals such as boosting the scholar’s academic performance, increasing their school attendance, and exposure to positive youth development activities.

Through social interactions and activities we strive to promote the following:

  • Student Achievement
  • Personal Growth
  • Collaboration and Partnerships
  • Resources and Facilities
  • Social Development

Programs

Sports & Fitness: The Sports and Fitness Program will be educating our scholars on the importance of fitness in everyday life as well as sports. Being fit can help in every aspect of our lives and they will be learning simple steps towards getting oneself fit. Also the scholars will be not only playing various sports they know, but also learning new ones. The importance of sportsmanship and competitiveness will also be covered.

Nutrition and Gardening: The Nutrition and Gardening Program is designed with the intention to educate our scholars about healthy and delicious food options as well as the process in which these foods are produced.  In this program we will explore various fruits and vegetables and discuss their benefits to our health.  We will learn how to preserve healthy foods and how to use them to create easy and scholar-friendly snacks.

Karate: Karate promotes self-discipline within each scholar. It also helps them to develop new physical, mental and emotional life skills. “The ability to channel the discipline of self is the degree in which one may outlast their opponent.”

Arts and Crafts: The Arts & Craft program will consist of hands on projects that will help educate the scholars.  We will explore all avenues from color pencils to tissue paper, almost anything that has to do with being creative.  We will draw, put together and use our imagination to create projects from scratch.  Scholars will learn the difference of the products we use and why they are used.
