The Dignity for All Students Act:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>Provides schools and students a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and\/or at a school function.<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Requires that there should be instruction in civility, citizenship, and character education by expanding the concepts of tolerance, respect for others and dignity<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Raises an awareness and sensitivity for different races, weights, national origins, ethnic groups, religions, religious practices, mental or physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identity, and sexes.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The following are DASA Protocols at our schools;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Scholars<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><strong><em>The Safety Box\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>is confidential! Reports are dropped off by the scholar and seen only by our school\u2019s DASA Coordinators. These are incidents that cause a scholar to feel unsafe or anxious at school because of his peers or staff member.<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>The Conflict Resolution Box<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0is used to solve small classroom problems. These are used mostly for\u00a0<u>one time\u00ad\u00a0<\/u>incidents that can be discussed and resolved amongst peers.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><b>Second Step Character Education\u00a0<\/b>takes place in all classrooms weekly.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>School Staff\/ Parent<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>DASA Incident Report completed by school staff or parent to report an incident of bullying, harassment or discrimination.<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Required to orally report the incident(s) within one school day to the principal of his\/her designee.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Report it in writing within two days after the oral report by completing the following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brighterchoice.org\/boys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/DASA-Incident-Report-Form.pdf\">DASA Incident Report Form<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Investigating Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Reports reviewed by DASA Coordinators to find out the following\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>What exactly was said and done<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Motive\/intent<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Relationship and past history<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Impact or perceived impact<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>After Investigation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i><em>After investigating an incident, the Dignity Act Coordinator(s) will make a determination as to whether or not the incident was material. A material incident under DASA is<\/em><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>An act or series of acts by a student and\/or employee on school property or at a school function;<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Creates a hostile environment by conduct;<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>With or without physical contact, and\/or;<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Verbal threats, intimidation or abuse;<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Conduct of such a severe or pervasive nature that it has the following effect;<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Unreasonably and substantially interferes with a student\u2019s educational performance, opportunities, or benefits; or<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Mental, emotional and\/or physical wellbeing; or<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><em>Reasonably causes, or would reasonably be expected to cause, a student to fear for his or her physical safety.<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Taking Action<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>School\u2019s follow-up action will consider the following\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>Student\u2019s age and developmentally appropriate conduct<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Specific offense and circumstances of incident<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Student\u2019s prior disciplinary record<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Input from persons in parental relation, teachers, students as appropriate<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Disability status<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Plan for change<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>Restorative practices; positive intervention supports<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Counseling, conflict resolution, mediation<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Behavioral intervention contracts, education<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The DASA Coordinator at our school is Ms. Appleby.<\/strong>\u00a0If you have a complaint or suspicion that your scholar is being bullied by another scholar(s) or staff member(s), please email the DASA Coordinators at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:DASAGIRLS@brighterchoice.org\">DASAGIRLS@brighterchoice.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The DASA Coordinator at our school is Mrs. Mclean. <\/strong>If you have a complaint or suspicion that your scholar is being bullied, harassed or discriminated against by another scholar(s) or staff member(s), please email the DASA Coordinators at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:DASABOYS@brighterchoice.org\">DASABOYS@brighterchoice.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We will provide you with the DASA Incident Reporting form to complete.<\/p>\n<p>This form is also located in the main office.
